This week, I sat down with NJ singer-songwriter, Samantha Jordan, to discuss her upcoming single “Too Damn Bad.” In this candid interview, Samantha Jordan talks about the inspiration behind her album, the challenges she faced while making it, and what she hopes listeners will take away from it.

With an exclusive peek into her highly-anticipated upcoming single, "Too Damn Bad," Samantha opened up about the inspiration behind her album, the challenges she faced during its creation, and the profound message she hopes listeners will carry with them. “I wrote it going into wanting to write about a happier song and the way I took it, I feel like when you are going through something the best way to cope with me sometimes is to think about how good I’m going to feel when I’ve healed and that time period once you’ve healed I feel like that time period is very when you’re moving on from the situation.

Drawing on her personal experiences, Samantha revealed that her creative process often revolves around reflecting on past events that she has already conquered and come to terms with. “A lot of my inspiration comes from past experiences. I take from things that I have already dealt with and already coped with, so I guess situations that happened in the past. I feel like I write with a lot of hypotheticals in mind too, like what if this happened but it didn’t actually happen? There’s a very small hint of sadness in it when you really think about it but it’s not meant to be sad, wallowing in your sadness the overall theme is moving on and getting on with your life I feel.

Creative Process & Challenges

Samantha Jordan's ability to infuse her music with genuine emotions and empowering messages set her apart as an artist who not only entertains but also uplifts her audience. "Too Damn Bad" promises to be a soul-stirring anthem that resonates deeply with listeners, reminding them that they have the strength within themselves to overcome any obstacle.“It’s so hard for me to write happier songs, I think it’s easier for me to write sadder songs for whatever reason but I went into it and I decided I wanted to record a song before we go back into the fall semester, and I said I wanted to write something happier; good for summertime, upbeat, blast it with the windows down in your car. So with that specifically, I figured out the concepts and I just have a list in my notes app on my phone of random phrases that I think are catchy and have an interesting sound to them, not even necessarily lyrics, but I just write them through my days. I went through them and that helps when I’m trying to get a point across and I get what I wanted to say fully across, and a lot of the recent songs I’ve written I’ve been doing that and it really helps.”

The Recording Process

Jordan describes the recording process with NJ musician and producer, Max Wolf: “I recorded with Max, who is amazing because I say “I want it to sound like this” but I don’t know how to get it from my brain to the words coming out of my mouth but Max is so with having the understanding of it and he would just play something on the guitar or the drums and I would be like “yeah, that!” We did it all in one session. When we did “If You Ever Change,” we did it in two different sessions which is different because you get a chance to sit on it for a little bit and then you go back to it, and doing it all in one was overwhelming but in such a good way. It wasn’t stressful at all. We got the instrumentation, I was very happy with that. I recorded the vocals, which was very easy because I get very on myself about “well I didn’t sound good on this part, I need to re-do it.” I think the meaning of the song helped a lot too because the meaning of the song is just not caring and putting yourself out there so having that energy in there recording vocals helps as well too. It was the best time.”

What can fans expect?

Samantha says she is most excited to receive feedback from friends post-release. “I love getting my friend’s feedback. It’s one thing to play it for my parents, getting their feedback means a lot. Specifically getting my friend’s feedback at school because everyone is my age and I think when it resonates with people your age and understand your experiences a bit better it resonates a different way. I cannot explain how much I love it. I played the song for my friends from home last week and just seeing their reactions, I feel like I succeeded in a way. It’s one thing to succeed for me personally, but then seeing that it resonates with my friends just makes the world of a difference, so I’m really excited to see everyone’s reactions.

As we delved deeper into her upcoming single, Samantha disclosed that she aims to craft music that can serve as a beacon of hope for her listeners. Samantha says fans can expect a completely different vibe than “If You Ever Change.” Moving from bittersweet harmonies, Jordan says this song is one she hopes will be listened to on 10 am drives to the beach with all the windows down. “It’s happier and all-around good vibes. It’s completely different and I’m really excited about it.

Stay tuned for the release of Samantha Jordan's latest single, "Too Damn Bad," and prepare to be inspired by the poignant melodies and uplifting lyrics that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on your heart.
